Gynecomastia (Breast in Men)

It is the female-type enlargement of breast tissue in males. The enlargement of breast tissue in males is not a disease symptom all the time. The most frequent reason of gynecomastia is an unknown case or overweight. It may develop with the effect of some drugs or hormonal changes. Gynecomastia is most frequently seen in the puberty period or in older men depending on the hormonal changes. Also, the patients should be examined in terms of the other cases that lead to gynecomastia.

The lack of self-confidence caused by gynecomastia which is a problem of almost 40% of men becomes a serious problem from time to time. Gynecomastia operation is the most effective method to solve this problem. There are three types: Glandular type real breast tissue, lipomatosis type fat tissue increase and mixed type-both breast tissue and fat tissue increases. Treatment changes depending on these types. Before operation, the mass is examined under ultrasound. It can be set forth whether the mass consists of only fat tissues, or not.

Age for Operation

As the gynecomastia complaints that emerge during adolescence may be depend on hormonal changes in this period, you should wait for at least 2 years for surgical operation. The gynecomastia that does not draw back within 2 years after adolescence is suitable for the operation. For age groups after adolescence, it is enough to wait for 1 year.

Pre-Operative Interview

In the interview, your complaints and expectations after the operation are primarily evaluated. You are informed about the image likely to arise after operation. Before and after photos of the operated patients are shown. When you decide for the operation, my assistant plans the suitable day for operation.

Preparation for Operation

You should stop taking aspirin and its derivatives one week before the operation. (do not stop taking the medication you permanently use without consulting your doctor)

It is recommended not to smoke for a while before and after the operation.

The fact that women menstruate on that date is not an obstacle for the operation.

Do not put on any makeup, do not use hair gel, wear comfortable clothes and leave your jewels at home before coming to the hospital for operation.

Do not eat or drink anything 6 hours before the operation.

Be present at the hospital about two hours before the operation.

When you come to the room reserved for you, you may be given an oral drug if you want, it will relax you.

Operative Technique

Laser liposuction or Liposuction technique solves the problems of our many patients except for the severe gynecomastia cases. Therefore, fat and breast tissue are as aspired through the holes where only small cannulas can go into without leading to any scars on the breasts. The sunken areas in the nipples and around the breasts are almost invisible with laser-liposuction or liposuction technique.

Type of Anesthesia

Local, general or sedation anesthesia can be applied depending on the size of gynecomastia.

Duration of Operation

It lasts about 1 hour.

Recovery Period

A gynecomastia corset is put up after operation.

You can start eating and drinking and walking following the bed rest for about 4 hours after the operation.

You are generally discharged in the evening on the same day without staying in hospital.

You dressing is controlled again on the 2nd day and replaced with a new one.

You can have bath after the 3rd day. You can get back to your usual routine within the 4th day and start to work.

You can start light exercises (like walking) on the 10th day at the earliest and more active exercises (swimming, running, other sports) as from the 2nd month.

It is normal that you have swelling and pinkish color changes after the gynecomastia operation. Most of the color changes and swelling after operation draw back in the 3rd week.

You’ll notice and enjoy the new shape in your body after the 3rd week.

The process of reshaping lasts up to the 6th month.
